First meeting of newly formed Constitutional Counsel being held in Bishkek

Bishkek, Nov. 20, 2020. /Kabar/. The first meeting of the newly established Constitutional Counsel is being held in the Kyrgyz capital city of Bishkek.

According to chairman of the commission Bekbosun Borubashev, the work of the Counsel will be divided into three main sections:

- Foundation of the constitutional order. Sections related to local authorities will also be considered here.

- Protection of rights and freedoms of citizens.

- Public authorities.

Borubashev noted that all section heads are lawyers, but in general, the Constitutional Counsel includes economists, lawyers, philosophers, philologists, and mathematicians.

The sections will be held every day from morning to evening. Plenary sessions are planned to be held twice a week.

The Counsel’s members will also hold a meeting with the people.

Deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh released the draft of the new Constitution for public discussions.

On Nov. 20, Acting President of Kyrgyzstan Talant Mamytov signed a decree, according to which the Constitutional Counsel was formed.

The Constitutional Counsel will discuss the concept of improving the foundations of the constitutional order; human and civil rights and freedoms; systems of state power; optimization and delineation of powers between the branches of government, as well as other issues arising from the above areas and as a result submit to the Parliament proposals on the draft law "On the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic".
