First PPP project in energy sector in Kyrgyzstan -small HPP to be built on Papan reservoir

Bishkek, April 11, 2024 / Kabar/. An agreement was signed in Bishkek for the first PPP project in the energy sector for the construction of small hydroelectric power plants behind the Papan reservoir dam.

According to the PPP Center, an agreement was reached between Chakan HPP OJSC and the Joint Kyrgyz-Chinese Society for the Construction of Hydropower LLC.

The project provides for the construction of a small hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 25 MW.

As part of the project, a mini-hydropower plant will be built, generating up to 100 million kW-hours annually, and jobs are created. The private partner also plans to build new infrastructure facilities, access roads, and connections to the power grid.

To implement the project, it is planned to attract investments in the amount of more than 27 million US dollars, the report said.
