Bishkek, April 14, 2022 . / Kabar /. The Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund (RKDF) allocated a concessional loan of $5.6 million for the construction of a small hydropower plant Leilek in Batken Oblast of Kyrgyzstan.
The fund said that the capacity of the hydropower plant will be 5.9 MW, the annual output will be 26.3 million kilowatt-hours. It will be able to cover more than 3.5% of the Batken Oblast’s demand for electricity, and new jobs will be created.
"Under the leadership of President Sadyr Zhaparov, much work is being done to reform the energy sector, including the creation of attractive conditions for investment in the energy sector. The RKDF is actively involved in this process. We are starting to implement the first project to build a small hydropower plant in Batken Oblast. It's noteworthy that this is also the first project of its kind in this region in general," Chairman of RKDF Board Artem Novikov.
The project was developed by Rosatom Central Asia LLP (Russia), which plans to build several small HPPs in the Kyrgyz Republic. It will also be the main supplier of equipment for Leilek HPP. Construction work began in March 2022 and will be completed in March 2023.
"The Fund renders great support in realization of projects on development of regions of the Kyrgyz Republic. In Batken Oblast, we have already financed more than 115 projects. We will continue to provide maximum support to the president and the Cabinet of Ministers in achieving the main task - the development of the country's economy," Novikov added.
