Five criminal cases being investigated in Kyrgyzstan into mass riots of October 2020

Bishkek, Jan. 6, 2021. /Kabar/. Five criminal cases are being investigated into mass unrest of Oct. 5-6, 2020, Syrgak Aitkurmanov, the head of the Investigation Service of Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Internal Affairs told during a press conference at Kabar News Agency.

According to him, the cases of organizing mass unrest are being investigated. Five criminal cases under five articles have been registered in the Unified Register of Crimes and Misdemeanors.

"At present, more than 3 thousand people have been questioned, among whom there are both ordinary citizens and deputies. There has been no decision on the cases so far, so we can't say who the defendants are," Aitkurmanov concluded.

After the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan held on Oct. 4 some political parties, who lost the elections, organized protests on Oct. 5 demanding to annul the election results. As a result of clashes between police and protesters 1 (man, 19) died, over 1000 people injured.

The Central Election Commission of the republic annulled on Oct. 6 the results of the elections.

On Oct. 15, 2020 Sooronbay Jeenbekov resigned amid ongoing protests to step down.

Kyrgyzstan's early presidential elections, as well as referendum on the form of government are set on Jan. 10, 2021.
