Bishkek, Nov. 14, 2018. /Kabar/. A social flash mob was launched for the Kyrgyz people on the occasion of the International Migrants Day. It is going on on social media, the press service of the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Russia reported.
The diplomatic institution reported that the campaign was initiated by the Resource Center for the Elderly. The flash mob “Salam Migrant” will last from November 12 to December 10 of the current year.
“Within the framework of this flash mob, labor migrants can publish their photos from the workplace with their advice or recommendation to compatriots who are in labor migration or are going to labor migration. The text’s message (no more than 1 sentence and/or 200 characters) is to convey the importance of safe migration to compatriots (registration, conclusion of an employment contract, filing in a migration card, etc.),” the embassy specified.
Thus, the campaign sets a goal to raise the awareness of Kyrgyz people in safe migration. Anyone who works abroad can take part in a flash mob.
The International Migrants Day has been celebrated annually on December 18 since 2000 on the proposal of the UN General Assembly. On this day in 1990, the UN General Assembly adopted the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
The General Assembly resolution invited all UN member states, governmental and non-governmental organizations to celebrate the International Migrants Day through the dissemination of information on human rights and fundamental freedoms of migrants, exchange of experience and development of measures to ensure their protection.
