Bishkek, Jan.23, 2020. /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov commented on the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
During the press conference, he noted the issue of delimitation and demarcation of borders with Tajikistan arose not yesterday, but in the early 90s.
"The issue is under the control of President and the Government. Earlier, delegations of the two countries, headed by deputy prime ministers, held a meeting at the border. Today, the Tajik delegation is in Bishkek and talks are under way," he said.
The foreign minister added negotiations between the two countries are going on a substantive, concrete and permanent basis.
"The sides are discussing the possibility of exchanging sites, taking into account the local population's opinion," he said.
Aidarbekov noted a unique event took place in 2019, when Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon met at border area of the two countries, and then negotiations continued in Isfara and Cholpon-Ata.
Note that another conflict occurred at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border on the night of 9-10 Jan.
Residents were throwing stones at each other. The situation is stable today, and authorities are holding talks to resolve the situation.
On Jan.14 Deputy PMs of Kyrgyzstan Jenish Razakov and Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim held meeting, which resulted in signing a relevant Protocol.
The meeting of the two countries' delegations was held as a result of negotiations between the two presidents.
