FM Kazakbaev chairs virtual meeting with honorary consuls of Kyrgyzstan in foreign countries

Bishkek, April 6, 2022. / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev held a meeting with honorary consuls of the Kyrgyz Republic in foreign countries in the form of a video conference.

In his speech, Kazakbaev noted that Kyrgyzstan pays great attention to the development of the institution of honorary consuls, which for many years has been an important tool of interaction of the republic with foreign countries and the provision of assistance to compatriots abroad, the Kyrgyz MFA’s press service said.

The minister expressed gratitude for the important work carried out by honorary consuls, in particular, for their assistance during quarantine measures amid spread of coronavirus infection in 2020, assistance in the restoration of villages in Batken Oblast, as well as assistance in the return of Kyrgyz citizens in connection with the situation in Ukraine.

Ruslan Kazakbaev drew attention to the main tasks facing honorary consuls: protection of rights and interests of citizens and legal entities of Kyrgyzstanis abroad, participation in the implementation of the migration policy of hthe republic; ensuring the presence of citizens in countries where there are no foreign offices of Kyrgyzstan, conducting active work with citizens to explain the rules and regulations of host countries, providing them with operational consular and legal protection in crisis situations; improving the support and protection of labor migrants, including in matters of departure for labor migration.

The head of the Foreign Ministry put special emphasis on the need to intensify activities in the sphere of economic diplomacy, development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, increasing export potential, attracting investment, development of tourism, and, in general, protection of economic interests of the country.

During the discussion, honorary consuls thanked for the opportunity of the meeting, despite its format, and expressed the hope that the restrictions imposed in connection with the coronavirus and the situation in general will end soon, allowing them to more actively address the relevant tasks.

They also informed about the work carried out in their consular districts, made proposals for the further implementation of the tasks set by the minister, as well as other areas of work.
