FM Kazakbaev meets with deputy chairman of Friedrich Ebert Foundation

Bishkek, March 31, 2022 . / Kabar /. As part of his visit to Germany, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev visited the headquarters of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and met with Michael Sommer, the deputy chairman of the Foundation.

Andreas Larem, member of the German Bundestag and the Germany-Central Asia Parliamentary Group, also took part in the meeting.

The Kyrgyz minister pointed to the fruitful cooperation and active work of the Ebert Foundation in Kyrgyzstan since 1993 and expressed gratitude for its support of democracy in the country, the press service of the Kyrgyz MFA said.

Kazakbaev told the interlocutors about the reforms carried out by President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, aimed at socio-economic development of the state and the fight against corruption, as well as internal political reforms carried out after 2020.

In this regard, the possibility of the Fund's expert support in reforming the judicial system, law enforcement agencies, health care and education sectors in Kyrgyzstan was discussed, based on the rich experience accumulated by the Fund.

In the context of the impact of the situation in Afghanistan and Ukraine, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic on Central Asia, the importance of restoring the implementation of financial and technical projects in Kyrgyzstan through the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, previously transferred to a multilateral format, was noted.

The German interlocutors positively noted the activity of a strong civil society in Kyrgyzstan and the existence of freedom of speech, as well as the ongoing measures for the further democratic development of the country. The Ebert Foundation confirmed its readiness to provide Kyrgyzstan with the necessary support.

They also identified cooperation in the field of ecology as an important area, which corresponds to the initiatives announced by President Sadyr Zhaparov at the Climate Summit in Glasgow.

During the meeting, there was also an intensive exchange of views on the development of regional cooperation in Central Asia, as well as the current situation in Ukraine and Afghanistan.
