Bishkek, June 1, 2021. / Kabar / . Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakabaev held a meeting with Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia, Ambassador Peter Burian.
The press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported that the meeting took place on the occasion of the completion of Burian’s mission.
During the meeting, the sides noted with satisfaction the positive development of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union.
They discussed issues on bilateral and regional levels, including upcoming events, project and program activities, the transition to a sustainable economy, the environment, attracting investment, regional security, joint combating the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The minister and the EU special representative agreed to continue joint preparation and holding of the First European Union-Central Asia Economic Forum in Bishkek in autumn 2021 as a new economic platform for cooperation between Central Asia and the EU.
In addition, the sides separately debated the conclusion of EU-Kyrgyzstan Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which the parties plan to sign during the upcoming visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to Brussels.
The ambassador stressed the importance of security cooperation in Central Asia and thanked Kyrgyzstan for its commitment to a diplomatic approach in dealing with bilateral and regional issues and for the country's contribution to the peace process in Afghanistan.
Peter Burian was awarded the medal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan "For Strengthening International Cooperation" for contribution to the development and strengthening of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the EU.
