Bishkek, Sept. 27, 2024. /Kabar/. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev addressed an open meeting of the UN Security Council on the maintenance of international peace and security in New York (USA), the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry reported.
The minister noted that the ongoing security crises in the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe continue to claim innocent lives, cause humanitarian crises and destruction. In this regard, he emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is in favor of the early defusing of international tensions and shared the vision of our country.
Kulubaev noted that Kyrgyzstan is in favor of qualitative and quantitative reform of the Council, which provides for the improvement of its working methods and expansion of its membership taking into account balanced regional representation. In this context, he noted the need to eliminate this injustice and solve the issue of increasing the number of member countries from Africa.
He informed the members of the Council that Kyrgyzstan is a candidate for non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. At the same time, he said that Kyrgyzstan is on the list of those 60 member states that have never been elected to the Council. In this regard, he proposed to eliminate this historical injustice and give the above-mentioned countries an equal opportunity to work in the Council.
In conclusion of his speech, Jeenbek Kulubaev noted that the Kyrgyz Republic is always interested and ready to contribute to the efforts of the Security Council in addressing global challenges and threats.
