As part of his participation in the 22nd Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries in Samarkand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding Rosemary DiCarlo.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, during the meeting the sidesdiscussed topical issues of bilateral and regional cooperation. In particular, they noted the importance of further strengthening cooperation with all countries of Central Asia and the role of UN institutions in this.
Taking the opportunity, Jeenbek Kulubaev, represented by Rosemary DiCarlo, expressed gratitude to the UN for supporting Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia in ensuring peace and stability.
The Kyrgyz minister noted the important role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia in timely support of the countries of the region in the event of conflict situations, emphasizing that the Regional Center has the potential for more active work in this direction.
In the light of recent events, the sides also discussed the current situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev expressed regret over this situation and reiterated that the Kyrgyz side adheres to the principles of peaceful resolution of existing disputes through political and diplomatic negotiations.
