Bishkek, Oct. 30, 2021 / Kabar /. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Investment of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev received on Friday UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic Ozonnia Ozhielo, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
Ozonnia Ozhielo welcomed the approval of the new Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and congratulated Ruslan Kazakbaev on his reappointment to the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Investment.
He noted that the UN system supports the efforts of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic for the socio-economic development of the country.
The sides discussed the practical implementation of the initiatives of President Sadyr Zhaparov, voiced at the General Debates of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly on holding the UN - Central Asia Forum, the adoption of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions, the development of remote 1000 mountain villages, and interactions on climate change.
Ozonnia Ozhielo stressed the importance of these initiatives and expressed the UN's interest in supporting the efforts of the Kyrgyz side to implement them.
He also presented the information on the current activities of the UN agencies. Ozonnia Ozhielo noted that from 2018 to date, the total amount of UN support to the Kyrgyz Republic amounted to USD 195 million. The assistance was carried out in the field of education, the rule of law, strengthening the capacity of state institutions, peacebuilding.
Residents of Batken region affected by the border conflict received assistance in the amount of USD 2.5 million.
Briefly informing about the plans of the UN system for the future, Ozonnia Ozhielo expressed hope for close cooperation with the Foreign Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic on their implementation.
The sides agreed to continue further building up cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and UN agencies.
