Bishkek, Jan.28, 2020 /Kabar/. Foreign Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Aidarbekov and Germany Heiko Maas discussed issues of environmental diplomacy, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The meeting of the two FMs took place as part of participation in the “Green Central Asia” conference, which is held in Berlin at new initiative of the German Foreign Ministry within the framework of the new EU Strategy on Central Asia.
Foreign ministers of Germany, Central Asian countries and Afghanistan will take part in the conference.
During his stay in Berlin, Chingiz Aidarbekov will hold a number of meetings on Kyrgyz-German cooperation issues.
The bilateral meeting of Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov with his German counterpart Heiko Maas took place on Monday.
The sides discussed the implementation of the agreements following the official visit of Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov to Germany in 2019, as well as exchanged views on regional cooperation issues.
“Special attention was paid to cooperation on climate change, glacier melting, environmental protection and water resources within the framework of the "Green Central Asia" initiative of the Foreign Ministry of Germany, which will implemented in accordance with the new EU Strategy on Central Asia,” the report says.
Aidarbekov and Maas noted the importance of implementing joint projects within the above-mentioned Initiative on green economy.
The Kyrgyz FM invited Heiko Maas to take part in the first EU-CA Economic Forum, to be held in summer this year in Kyrgyzstan with Germany’s chairmanship in the second half of 2020.
In general, the foreign ministers expressed satisfaction with the level of development of the Kyrgyz-German cooperation, and noted the need to expand cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
The “Green Central Asia” conference will take place today in Berlin. Its purpose is the consideration of aspects of strengthening regional cooperation in such an important area as combating climate change and its consequences.
The German government is expected to launch a number of initiatives in areas such as environmental protection and biodiversity, water management, combating desertification, forestry, renewable energy and energy efficiency, agriculture and land management.
