Following results of first half of 2020, inflow of investment decreased by 56%: deputy PM

Bishkek, Oct. 30, 2020. /Kabar/. At a press conference in Bishkek, First Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Artem Novikov, answering reporters' questions, told how the pandemic has affected the inflow of investment funds into the country.

As he noted, 2020 has become difficult for the whole world, because the pandemic has made its own adjustments in activities of each state.

"In general, if we look at the global perspective, the inflow of foreign investment worldwide has decreased by about 40%. Kyrgyzstan is no exception in this situation. According to the results of 6 months of 2020, the inflow of investment funds decreased by 56%. The main decline was in scientific, technical and professional activities, namely, geological and exploration works at mineral deposits.

To a greater extent, this is due to the inability of specialists to attend to work in the pandemic. We are now carefully studying this issue. We held consultations with mining companies on further plans. We are faced with the task of resuming the companies' activities. And I hope that next year mining companies will be able to restore all their previous plans and projects," Novikov added.
