Bishkek, Nov. 23, 2018. /Kabar/. A discussion on food safety and nutrition in Kyrgyzstan – trends, problems and next steps – is underway in Bishkek.

During the event, Coordinator of the United Nations in Kyrgyzstan Ozonnia Ojielo told that food safety and nutrition issues remain an important part of the development agenda of Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that the country is highly dependent on imported staple foods.

Ojielo added that the food diversity is scarce, malnutrition persists, leading to a high level of anemia among adults and stunting among children, particularly poor and vulnerable communities are not provided with food.

The UN Coordinator also noted that there would be six such meetings altogether. And they will be held throughout the year.
