Foreign direct investment from EU increased by 15%: Kazakh PM

Speaking at the First European Union-Central Asia Economic Forum in Bishkek, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin said the republic's gross domestic product has increased by 3.4% since the beginning of the year, despite continuing risks in the international economy.

"Thanks to such dynamics, the economy has already reached pre-pandemic COVID-19 production indicators," he said.

Along with this, Mamin noted that overall investor expectations have improved, as evidenced by the dynamism of the capital market.

"The volume of foreign direct investment in Kazakhstan in the first half of the year grew by more than 30%. In turn, foreign direct investment from the EU increased by 15%," the head of the Kazakh Government added.

Bishkek hosted the First European Union-Central Asia Economic Forum in Bishkek. In 2019 the EU and the foreign ministers of the Central Asian countries agreed to hold the First EU-CA Economic Forum.

The main topics of this Forum will be the economic recovery after COVID-19, as well as issues of the business environment and digitalization.
