Former MP Zhaparov detained accusing of involvement in hostage-taking

Bishkek, March 25 / Kabar /. Former member of Kyrgyz Parliament Sadyr Japarov was detained and taken to the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of a criminal case initiated on the fact of threat of murder, hostage-taking, hooliganism, violence against representative of authority, the press service of the State Committee for National Security reported.

The investigation confirmed that on October 7, 2013 during a rally in Karakol, protesters forcibly placed governor of Issyk-Kul oblast Emil Kaptagaev in a Volkswagen Vento car parked near the building of the regional state administration, thereby taking him as hostage. Witnesses said that, the organizer of this rally and subsequent illegal actions was Sadyr Zhaparov, who through mobile communication instructed not to release Kaptagaev. As a result of the operation conducted by the police, Kaptagaev was released.

It should be noted that the car in which Kaptagaev was located belonged to Zhaparov's relative B.Kulanbaev, who is currently detained by law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan and the issue of his extradition to the Kyrgyz Republic is being decided.

According to the available materials of the criminal case, Zhaparov also financed the rally, the aim of which was to destabilize the situation in Issyk-Kul.
