Former President Atambayev detained on fact of organizing mass riots

Bishkek, Oct. 10, 2020. /Kabar/. Former President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev, his bodyguards Kanat Sagymbayev and Damir Musakeyev have been detained on the fact of organizing mass riots.

According to the press service of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security, all the above-mentioned persons arrested on Saturday on the basis of the investigation order within the criminal case on the fact of organization of mass riots in Bishkek.

At present, an interdepartmental investigative and operative group is continuing the corresponding investigative and operative measures, aimed at identifying and detaining other accomplices of this crime.

On Oct. 5 citizens gathered for peaceful meeting demanding to recognize the results of Oct. 4 parliamentary elections invalid.

In the evening, the meeting turned into riots and at night the protesters seized the Parliament Building.

Kyrgyz President Soroonbay Jeenbekov has relieved on Friday prime minister and the entire government, as well as heads of the security, law enforcement and military structures.

On Oct. 9 supporters of Sadyr Zhaparov demanding to appoint him prime minister continued their rally near the Government House.

Meanwhile, supporters of former President Almazbek Atambayev and former Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov, who oppose the appointment of Zhaparov as prime minister, started their action on Ala-Too Square in the afternoon.

During the rally, Zhaparov's supporters came to the square, after which there was a clash between the parties.
