Former presidents of the country may be brought to responsibility during pre-trial proceedings on corruption case regarding Kumtor gold deposit, Chairman of Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashyev told journalists during his working visit to Jalal-Abad Oblast.
According to him, many former prime ministers, parliamentary speakers, deputies and high-ranking officials are involved in the Kumtor case.
"Former presidents who were directly involved in the case may also be brought to justice," he said.
Tashiev denied presence of political persecution or compatriotism in this case.
Earlier, deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh Asylbek Jeenbekov and Torobai Zulpukarov were imprisoned for two months on the fact of corruption in the implementation of the Kumtor, and another ex-MPs Ishak Pirmatov and Talantbek Uzakbaev were arrested.
In addition, former Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov was detained.
On May 17, at an extraordinary meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh deputies, having considered the interim report of the State Commission for Investigation of Kumtor Gold Company recommended the Cabinet of Ministers to introduce an interim external management in Kumtor Gold Company due to irresponsible actions of Centerra Gold Inc. in the use of subsoil, as well as to appoint a temporary external manager.
It was also reported that Kumtor Gold Company has disabled the system of monitoring and scanning the sides of the pit itself.
During the meeting, head of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) Kamchybek Tashiev said four criminal cases related to Kumtor were under investigation by the SCNS Main Investigation Department (MDI).
He added there are even deputies who were receiving remuneration from Kumtor.
