Bishkek, Nov. 22, 2018 / Kabar /. On 19 November the EBRD organised a workshop “The future of the airports in the Kyrgyz Republic: PPP and other alternatives”. It brought together members of the Working Group for Manas airport PPP analysis, which could explore options for tendering out airport infrastructure in the country.
The workshop participants received an opportunity to discuss the results of the strengths-weaknesses-opportunities-threats (SWOT) analysis of international concession practice versus the current state-ownership model prepared by international aviation consultants commissioned by the EBRD.
The event was attended by senior representatives of the Government Office of the Kyrgyz Republic, JSC “Manas International Airport”, Ministry of Transport and Roads, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, State Property Fund, Agency for promotion and protection of investments and the EBRD.
In their opening speeches Zhenishbek Nogoibayev, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Roads of the Kyrgyz Republic and Neil McKain, EBRD Regional Director for Central Asia highlighted the need for institutional support, efficient decision making and comprehensive appraisal of the chosen option for tendering out airport infrastructure in the country.
Matthew Jordan-Tank, EBRD Head of Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory, confirmed the Bank’s willingness to support the government of the Kyrgyz Republic in the PPP tender preparation via its Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory Initiative.
The EBRD also expressed its readiness to cooperate with other international institutions to ensure the success of this important project.
