Tashkent, Nov.12, 2019. /Kabar/ French actor Gérard Depardieu has been appointed Ambassador of Uzbekistan's tourism brand to France, Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov said at the press conference, dedicated to the Tashkent International Tourism Fair (TITF) “ Tourism on the Silk Road”.
The corresponding certificate will be awarded to the actor at a special event during the upcoming exhibition.
Depardieu expressed a desire to expand Uzbekistan's tourism potential at his own initiative and intends to promote it not only in France, but all over the world.
Gérard Depardieu has arrived in Uzbekistan last week to shoot The Silk Road documentary film for the Paris Premiere TV channel, in which he will play a major role.
Shooting takes place on Nov. 6-26 in six cities - Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, Termez and Nukus.
To date, 14 public figures have been appointed as tourism ambassadors in various countries. For the first time, all of them will take part in the 2019 TITF, to be held on Nov. 13-15 in Tashkent.
