The Government is taking firm measures to eradicate gender-based violence - UN Coordinator in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Nov. 5, 2018. /Kabar/. Violence against women and girls is a gross violation of human rights, with negative consequences for development, UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic Ozonnia Ojiello told at the sub-regional conference in Bishkek.

In his opinion, the Government of Kyrgyzstan is taking firm measures to implement the relevant laws and eradicate gender-based violence.

“And the United Nations in Kyrgyzstan will actively support these efforts to build a society free from violence,” Ojiello said.

The conference participants discussed best practices for preventing and eliminating violence against women in the region and beyond, including improving national policies in accordance with international standards, providing victims of violence with quality health care services, law enforcement services, legal and social services. During the event, great attention was paid to the transformation of social norms that are perpetuating violence against women and girls.
