Head of Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov meets with UNDP delegation

Bishkek, March 5, 2024. /Kabar/. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov met with U.N. Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Europe and CIS Ivana Živković.

Akylbek Zhaparov noted the close partnership of Kyrgyzstan with UNDP and the organization’s support for reforms and programs for the country’s socio-economic development.

The country's commitment to its obligations to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050 on the platform of green development, taking into account national priorities and interests, was confirmed.

The relevance of joint and priority actions with UNDP on the practical implementation of the initiatives of President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov on the Five-Year Action for the Development of Mountain Regions for 2023–2027 and on the exchange of Kyrgyzstan’s external debt for green initiatives was emphasized.

Interest was expressed in attracting advanced technologies to Kyrgyzstan in the fields of agriculture, hydropower, renewable energy, tourism, education, transport and digitalization.

UNDP was called upon to actively participate in the implementation of the national roadmap for the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions and the creation of a Trust Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic to address climate issues.

Ivana Živković, in turn, noted the leadership of Kyrgyzstan in the global mining agenda, which is one of the positive examples in the international arena.

She praised the government's programs to eradicate poverty, support health care and education.

Ivana Ivana Živković informed about UNDP proposals to create a Trust Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic to address climate issues.

The organization’s readiness to continue to support the government of the Kyrgyz Republic in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, on climate change issues, the development of a green economy and in other strategic areas was confirmed.
