Head of Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakh PM hold bilateral meeting

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Zhaparov and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the regular meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan), the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

Akylbek Zhaparov noted that today the Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations have a positive trend. At the end of 2021, the growth in mutual trade between the two countries increased by 30.9%, amounting to USD 1 billion 59.5 million. He said that the volume of trade between the countries should be doubled.

The head of the Cabinet expressed satisfaction with the results of the first meeting of the Working Group on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, held in February 2022 in Almaty.

“The Kyrgyz side positively accepted the agreement on the installation of monitors in the offices to monitor the situation on the unhindered passage of goods on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border in real time. I hope this will help to avoid the accumulation of cargo carriers at the border. It is important for the Kyrgyz Republic that goods produced in the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan have an advantage in the domestic markets of the two countries, in contrast to imported products from far abroad countries. We stand for the creation of favorable conditions not only for entrepreneurs / agricultural producers of our countries and the elimination of existing barriers in the field of trade, but also for ensuring the free movement of goods and maintaining a stable situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border,” the head of the Cabinet said.

The prime minister of Kazakhstan also noted the positive dynamics of trade between the two republics, emphasizing the importance of bringing it up to USD 2 billion.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the construction of industrial trade and logistics complexes in the area of ​​the Ak-Tilek and Karasu road checkpoints and a wholesale distribution center in the Kyrgyz Republic, the opening of a branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Bishkek and others.

At the end of the meeting, Akylbek Zhaparov invited Alikhan Smailov to visit Kyrgyzstan in April 2022 and hold the X meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Intergovernmental Council.
