Bishkek, Oct. 9, 2023. / Kabar /. Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers - Head of the Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov received the new permanent representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Alexandra Solovyova.
The meeting began with congratulations of the head of the Cabinet on the appointment of Alexandra Solovyova to the post of UNDP Resident Representative in Kyrgyzstan, wishes of success and a fruitful mission.
The chairman of the Cabinet noted that since the country gained independence, Kyrgyzstan has felt the constant support of UNDP in promoting reforms, socio-economic development programs of the republic and the successful result of this interaction was that the country has made significant progress in implementing the sustainable development goals (SDGs), ranking 45th out of 166 UN member states.
In addition, he outlined the results of the participation of the delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic, led by the president of the country, in the events of the High-Level Week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, as well as bilateral meetings with the leaders of a number of countries and international organizations, during which exchange issues were actively discussed Kyrgyzstan's external debt for green initiatives, development of a green economy and sustainable development of mountain regions.
Akylbek Zhaparov invited the UNDP office in Bishkek to provide active assistance in coordinating work to write off the country’s external debt in exchange for green initiatives, attracting financing for green projects and new initiatives.
In turn, Alexandra Solovyova highly appreciated the implementation of the SDGs in the country, especially noting the inclusion of SDG indicators in the development plans and programs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
She emphasized that poverty reduction and sustainable socio-economic development, taking into account a safe environment, are a central part of the UNDP mandate.
Alexandra Solovyova noted that UNDP will continue to be a reliable partner of the country in implementing initiatives to promote the green economy, the mountain and climate agenda, and environmental conservation, and also expressed UNDP’s readiness to continue to provide support “in the implementation of national tasks set by the government of the country.”
During the meeting, the parties agreed to continue active joint work in the field of socio-economic development of the country within the mandate of the UNDP office in Bishkek.
