Bishkek, March 14, 2022. / Kabar /. The head of European diplomacy confirmed the EU's firm commitment to developing relations with Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbaev met with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell on March 12, in Antalya.
During the conversation, the prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed, including agreements on the development of practical steps to organize events at the level of the KR-EU and the EU-CA.
Particular attention is paid to the preparation of a high-level visit and the signing of an agreement on expanded partnership and cooperation, which should form the legal basis for further cooperation, the press service said.
The sides also exchanged views on the international agenda, including the situation in Ukraine.
Kazakbaev noted that the Kyrgyz Republic has friendly relations with both the Russian and Ukrainian peoples and is following with concern the development of the situation in Ukraine. He stressed that Kyrgyzstan is against the division of the world and violation of the principle of indivisibility of security.
"From the first days of the conflict, the Kyrgyz side has been in favor of an exclusively peaceful settlement of the situation through political and diplomatic negotiations and calls on the parties to look for new mechanisms and formats of dialogue if the existing formats have stopped working," the foreign minister said.
He also called for an early de-escalation of the conflict to avoid further civilian casualties.
"Kyrgyzstan welcomes the holding of a meeting of the heads of the foreign ministries of Russia and Ukraine on March 10 in Antalya through the mediation of Turkey, and also expresses its readiness to provide a platform for negotiations if necessary," the minister said.
Minister Kazakbaev stressed that further escalation of tension in the world, including through the introduction of mutual sanctions, could cause negative economic and humanitarian consequences for all countries in the region, including Kyrgyzstan.
Borrell, in turn, shared his concern about the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and noted the importance of a ceasefire and the need to ensure a humanitarian corridor. He further announced the readiness of the EU to consider ways to mitigate the consequences for the countries of Central Asia.
The head of European diplomacy confirmed the firm commitment of the European Union to the development of relations with Kyrgyzstan.
