Bishkek, March 30, 2023. / Kabar/. Head of the Information Policy Service of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Daiyrbek Orunbekov met with Ambassador of the United States of America to the Kyrgyz Republic Leslie Viguerie.
During the meeting, the sides discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of information, including the development of freedom of speech and mass media.
Orunbekov confirmed the commitment of the Kyrgyz side to protect freedom of speech and the principles of a democratic society.
He emphasized that all conditions have been created in the Kyrgyz Republic for the full functioning of independent media.
“Our only requirement to all media is compliance with national legislation prohibiting the dissemination of false information, as well as objectivity in the dissemination of information, including during conflict and military situations,” Orunbekov noted adding that all legal proceedings, including in relation to the media, should take place strictly in the legal field.
In turn, the ambassador expressed readiness to support on all issues of mutual interest.
He noted with satisfaction that the Kyrgyz Republic remains a country that adheres to the principles of protecting freedom of speech and stands for a strong civil society.
The sides also discussed the situation around Azattyk Radio, noting the special role of the latter in the development of independent journalism.
At the end of the meeting, the sides discussed the further continuation of cooperation in terms of exchanging experience and training employees of the press services of state bodies.
