Head of OIC mission notes improvement of Kyrgyzstan's electoral system

Bishkek, Nov. 28, 2021 . / Kabar / . Chairwoman of the Central Elections Commission of Kyrgyzstan Nurzhan Shaildabekova met with representatives of the mission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), headed by Ambassador Adamo Baubokar

Adamo Baubokar noted OIC Secretary General sent a mission to support Kyrgyzstan and expressed the wish that the elections will be held accordingly, the press service of the CEC said.

"Since the election in January, improvements have been made to the system. There have been few complaints. We wish you successful elections," he said.

The CEC chairwoman told about the achievements of the electoral system of the country, technologies to ensure transparency of voting and accurate vote count, mechanisms to respond to violations of electoral law.

"In the past there was no such reaction to violations by competent authorities, now the situation has changed. There is a clear division of competence between election commissions and law enforcement bodies. For gross violations, such as bribery and administrative resources, the Elections Commission cannot make a decision without the conclusion of law enforcement agencies.

The CEC cancelled the results and called a new election when reports were massively recorded during the local council elections in large cities in this April. Now we receive signals of violations, but they are not systemic violations as before," Shaildabekova said.
