Herbs festival held in Issyk-Kul

Bishkek, May 6, 2019 / Kabar /. The first festival of medicinal herbs was held in Ak-Suu region of Issyk-Kul oblast last weekend, the press service of the Issyk-Kul oblast state administration reported.

The festival was organized by the Arashan cooperative, which has been growing medicinal herbs for several years. The initiative was supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Kyrgyz Association of Tour Operators (KATO).

"Specialists held master classes and told about the peculiarity and usefulness of herbal teas based on medicinal herbs at the festival. The guests had the opportunity to try and enjoy different kinds of tea of own production," the press service said.

“The production and processing of medicinal herbs will have a positive impact on the development of industry and tourism in the region,” Kamchybek Umetaliev, the head of the Arashan cooperative, said.

Nurgul Bayburaeva, the national coordinator of the UNIDO project, stressed that the festival has several objectives, such as uniting efforts to promote research and development of medicinal herbs, assistance in attracting investment for the development of production, as well as the promotion of environmental values and tourism development in the region.
