Bosteri, Sept. 06, 2018. /Kabar/. Today there is a sufficient degree of freedom of speech in the work of mass media of most countries in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Head of the Information and Informatization Department of the CIS Executive Committee Igor Grigoryev commented for Kabar News Agency within the 25th meeting of the Council of heads of state-run News Agencies of CIS.

He noted that it was due to the demand of time to strengthen democratic base.

“Basically, it is considered that Kyrgyzstan is an example of a developed democracy. However, today it can be said that there is a sufficient degree of freedom of speech in the work of mass media of most CIS countries. Now the time dictates its demands to develop a democratic basis”, Grigoryev said.

In addition, he pointed out that the Council of state-run News Agencies, commonly known as the Information Council, generally, is held every half a year with the participation of the heads of agencies in eight CIS countries. During the meetings they discuss the matters of information exchange between participating countries.

“We set forth a wonderful idea, so that representatives of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan joined us, and the CIS countries were represented to the full extent. We are very glad that the Council is now taking place in Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of such a remarkable event as the World Nomad Games”, he added.

Another important point of the meeting of media managers will, as Grigoryev noted, be getting acquainted with new people.

“In our ranks there are a number of managers of news agencies, who, just recently, have assumed their office, and, above all, it is very important for us that they meet their counterparts, establish close ties. This will enable full-fledged interaction in joint activities between our countries in the information space. This underpins and aims at creating a single information space in CIS, so that it is filled with common ideas and values, which unite our peoples”, he concluded.

Moreover, outside the agenda, he confided that he actively follows up the information concerning the World Nomad Games.

“Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to take part in the activities related to the event, but I have been following up the mass media. A very large amount of information – it is very engaging to follow it all. It is remarkable that the Games aroused great interest not only of the mass media in CIS countries, but also the countries of far abroad”, Grigoryev noted.

The 25th meeting of the Council of heads of state-run News Agencies of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS Information Council) took place in Issyk-Kul. The organizer of the meeting, which has been held since 1995, is Kabar Kyrgyz National News Agency.

During the meeting the role of mass media in the development of domestic tourism within the framework of the Year of Culture in the CIS, the work of the Kabar News Agency in covering the Third World Nomad Games, the activities of the CIS Executive Committee in the sphere of information exchanges between the Commonwealth states and the most important events in the region in 2018-2019 were discussed.

In addition, the participants talked about the media activities that they represent. At the end of the Council, a joint agreement was signed between the Kabar News Agency and Armenpress News Agency.
