Canadian law enforcement officials have detained the financial director of the Chinese company Huawei Technologies Meng Wangzhou, whose extradition is requested by the United States, Kyodo reports.
In the US, Wangzhou is suspected of violating US trade sanctions imposed on Iran.
It is noted that Huawei’s CFO was detained on December 1 in Vancouver.
In turn, the Chinese embassy in Canada called the detention of Wangzhou "a gross violation of human rights."
"The Canadian police detained a citizen of the PRC at the request of the American side, who did not violate any American and Canadian laws, the Chinese side strongly opposes these measures, which are a gross violation of human rights," said a statement published on the diplomatic mission website.
The embassy also demanded the release of a Chinese citizen.
Earlier, the media reported that the US administration is making significant efforts to convince the allies to abandon the use of Huawei products.
In May, Alexander Larin, a leading researcher at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, assessed the Washington and Beijing opposition in high-tech areas in an interview with NSN.
