Bishkek, March 4, 2022 / Kabar /. President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif at a press conference in Bishkek forecasted a great future for Kyrgyz hockey.
He said that it was the members of the Kyrgyz national team who made a lot of efforts to hold the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship Division IV in Kyrgyzstan.
“I am in Kyrgyzstan for the first time and it is a great honor for me to be here within the framework of the championship, as well as to feel all the benefits of Kyrgyz hospitality. Yesterday was a truly historic day for all the people of Kyrgyzstan. Seeing a full hall of fans yesterday, I realized that the Kyrgyz people and government agencies have a great interest in hockey,” he said.
The Ice Hockey World Championship Division IV is a sports competition under the auspices of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), which is held in Kyrgyzstan for the first time.
The tournament is attended by 5 national teams and all from Asia, namely the national team of Kyrgyzstan (came from the qualifying tournament of the III division), the national team of Kuwait (came from the qualifying tournament of the III division), the national team of Iran (participating for the first time), the national team of Singapore (participating for the first time), the national team Malaysia (participating for the first time).
The championship was supposed to be held back in 2020, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
