III WNG: Ashyrtmaly aba gureshi winners

Cholpon-Ata, Sept. 06, 2018. /Kabar/. Competitions in ashyrtmaly aba gureshi took place at the Physical Culture and Heath Complex in Baktuu-Dolonotu village, Issyk-Kul oblast, within the Third World Nomad Games.

41 sportsmen from 18 countries took part in the competitions.

1 place – Auezkhan Kurdankulov - Kazakhstan – prize fund of 70 thousand soms;

2 place – Reza Taghizadehari – Iran –35 thousand soms;

3 place – Ilnar Zakirov – Tatarstan (Russia)–17 thousand 500 soms;

3 place – Danil Biktimirov – Chelyabinsk (Russia) -17 thousand 500 soms.

up to 80 kg:

1 place – Alisher Kudaiberdiev - Uzbekistan – 70 thousand soms;

2 place – Ishanmurat Ataev – Turkmenistan – 35 thousand soms;

3 place – Tariel Usenov – Kyrgyzstan – 17 thousand 500 soms;

Ashyrtmaly aba gureshi is one of the forms of traditional Turkish wresting. It is a fight that involves arbitrary holds on the rival’s clothes and body. The technique is rich in maneuvers with using legs, throws with the holding to the belt and wrestling jacket or one leg and the belt. Bouts occur invariably with music in the background performed with folk instruments: drum (davul) and wind-instrument (zurna).

At the time when aba gureshi was created, rivals came for the bout wearing short capes with holes for arms or sheepskin jackets (aba), which gave the wrestling its name. Historically, the Turks were always ready for war, even during peacetime. That is why engaging in wrestling served not only as a means of physical education, but also as an important element of military training of boys and men.
