Immunization campaign against measles and rubella starts in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Sept. 18, 2023 / Kabar /. Kyrgyzstan has launched an additional immunization campaign against measles and rubella in response to the measles outbreak, head of the Department of Public Health, Licensing of Medical and Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health, Zinat Beishebaeva, told at a press conference at Kabar Agency.

She said that today the number of measles cases in the country has reached 2 thousand 18 cases, most of them are children.

“The measles and rubella supplemental immunization campaign will prevent the spread of the virus,” she said.

Beishebaeva also noted that, on the recommendation of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunization, vaccination will be carried out with rubella measles vaccine among children aged 9 months to 7 years inclusive.

Earlier, as part of the campaign, 755 thousand 500 doses of rubella-measles vaccine were received in Kyrgyzstan.

The immunization with the rubella-measles vaccine will be carried out in the cities of Bishkek, Osh, Osh and Chui regions, where the most active circulation of the virus occurs, and lasts until September 29.

The vaccination can be obtained free of charge at temporary vaccination points in educational institutions.

In addition, during the campaign period in Jalal-Abad, Naryn, Talas, Issyk-Kul and Batken regions, routine and catch-up immunization against measles will be carried out among children aged 1 year and 6 years using the measles-mumps-rubella.
