In 2020, Kyrgyzstan created fewer jobs compared to previous year: statistics

According to the results of 2020, 4.5 thousand jobs were created at enterprises, institutions and organizations of the formal sector, head of the Labor and Employment Statistics Department of Kyrgyzstan’s National Statistics Committee Gulnara Dzhailobayeva said Thursday during a press conference.

She noted that according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, 66,222 new jobs were created in the informal sector last year.

"The largest number of new jobs were created in Chui Oblast - 32.4%, in Jalal-Abad Oblast - 28%, in the city of Bishkek - 14.6%. This data includes formal and informal sectors,” Dzhailobayeva said.

Meanwhile, in 2020, fewer jobs were created in comparison with 2019.

If in 2019, in Jalal-Abad Oblast about 30 thousand jobs were created, last year’s figures amounted to only 20 thousand, and in Chui Oblast 23 thousand jobs were created in 2020, while in 2019 the figure was 25 thousand.

"The decrease in the number of new jobs is related d to the pandemic and quarantine," the specialist added.
