In 2020, pneumonia killed 3 times more Kyrgyzstanis compared to last year

Bishkek, Nov. 17, 2020. /Kabar/. In January-September 2020, according to operational data of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry, 26 thousand cases of pneumonia were registered against 24 thousand cases in the corresponding period of 2019.

According to the report from the National Statistics Committee of the republic, the largest increase in pneumonia cases compared to January-September last year was observed in Bishkek and Issyk-Kul Oblast - by 1.9 times, as well as in Chui Oblast - by 11.5%.

In January-September 2020, circulatory system diseases accounted for more than half (52%) of all deaths due to causes of death, neoplasms - 11%, and respiratory diseases – 7%.

Meanwhile, if in January-September 2019 pneumonia claimed lives of 444 people, which is about 33 % of the total number of deaths from respiratory diseases, in January-September 2020 their number reached 1,112 people, or 54 %.

In January-September of the previous year, 9 deaths from pneumonia per 100 thousand people were recorded, while in same period this year there were 23 deaths, or 2.5 times more.
