Tashkent, Jan. 19, 2021. /Kabar/. In 2020, 175,600 deaths were registered in Uzbekistan, which is an absolute historical record, the State Committee of the republic said on Tuesday.
Diseases of the circulatory system account for 60% out of the total number of deaths registered in January-December 2020, fatalities related to neoplasms - 8%, respiratory diseases - 7.2%, digestive diseases - 4.4%, accidents, poisonings and injuries - 4.4%, from infectious and parasitic diseases - 4.4%, and 11.6% - from other diseases.
In 2019, 154,900 Uzbekistanis died, 154,900 in 2018, 160,700 in 2017, 154,700 in 2016, and 152,000 in 2015.
Earlier, Health Minister of Uzbekistan Abdukhakim Khadzhibayev said statistics on the number of citizens who died from COVID-19 would not be published. An official request should be made in order to obtain the data.
"This is not a secret to anyone. If someone asks for official statistics, he will get an answer," the minister said.
Khadzhibayev added in all other cases this information will not be disclosed.
