Bishkek, Jan. 22, 2021. /Kabar/. According to the results of 2020, in general Kyrgyzstan recorded an increase in the main types of crops, the National Statistics Committee of the republic reported.
More than 1.8 million tons of grain (excluding leguminous plants, rice and buckwheat, in weight after the final cut) were threshed, which is 4.2% more compared to the previous year.
In 2020, 629 thousand tons of wheat were ground, or 4.6% more than in 2019, and 510 thousand tons of barley, or 9.5% more.
Along with this, more than one million tons of potatoes were harvested, which is 3.4% less compared to the previous year, including 7.5% less in farms of Batken Oblast, 5.2% less in Talas Oblast, 4.9% less in Issyk-Kul Oblast and 4.4% less in Dzhalal-Abad Oblast. The decrease in potato production related to reduction of its sown areas in 2020 by 3.7%.
Over one million tons of vegetables were harvested in the past year, or 0.2% less, which was caused by a decrease in their collection in farms of Talas Oblast - by 9.9%, Naryn Oblast - by 3.2% and Osh Oblast - by 1.4%.
449 thousand tons of sugar beet were harvested, which is 39.4% less compared to 2019, in farms of Chui Oblast its volume also declined by 39.8%, in Talas Oblast - by 27.4%.
In general, the decrease was due to the reduction of sugar beet acreage in 2020 by almost 42%.
