Increasing country's transit potential is very urgent for Kyrgyzstan- President

Bishkek, Nov. 11, 2019. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov spoke about the work to improve the transit potential of the country. Speaking at the international donor conference, Jeenbekov noted that the issue of increasing the country's transit potential is very urgent for Kyrgyzstan, and for this, improving the quality of existing roads and building new ones.

“At present, construction work is underway on 13 trunk roads. Funds are allocated from the republican budget for road construction projects. However, we need the support of donors. To ensure safety on the North-South highway, an additional USD 56.5 million is required in cash. Negotiations are underway to finance the construction of the 4th phase of the Taraz-Talas-Suusamyr highway. Work is underway to design a ring road in Issyk-Kul, which is of strategic importance for the development of tourism,” he said.

The President said that by 2024 it is planned to complete the Tyup-Kegen road.

“With the completion of the construction of this road, it will be much more convenient for citizens of neighboring countries to visit our tourist zone. Trade and economic interaction will be improved, which gives an impetus to the development of tourism. It will take about USD 500 million to restore roads of international importance,” he said.

The head of state emphasized that the largest project in the field of roads is the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.

“It is very important that this major project of international importance receives support from our partners. Another major project is the modernization of our Manas airport. Investments are needed to modernize the infrastructure of the Manas airport and airports in the regions,” he added.
