India and Pakistan officially join SCO

Astana, June 9 /Kabar/. India and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have become the official members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The SCO Heads of State signed the historical agreement confirming full-fledged membership of India and Pakistan at the Palace of Independence in Astana. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif both attended the SCO Summit in Astana.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), s a Eurasian political, economic, and military organisation which was founded in 2001 in Shanghai by the leaders of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia,Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

On 10 July 2015, the SCO decided to admit India and Pakistan as full members. India and Pakistan signed the memorandum of obligations on 24 June 2016 at Tashkent, thereby starting the formal process of joining the SCO as full members. India and Pakistan joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as full members today, on 9 June 2017 in Astana, Khazakstan summit.

The countries-observers in the SCO at the moment are Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia, the partner countries are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
