Inflow of direct foreign investments in Kyrgyzstan down 2.4 times

Bishkek, Sept. 16, 2020. /Kabar/. The inflow of foreign direct investment in January-June 2020 compared to the same period in 2019 decreased by 2.4 times and amounted to $164.4 million, the press service of the country’s National Statistics Committee reported Wednesday.

There was a decrease in all the components in the structure of direct foreign investments compared to the first half of the last year.

The main volume of direct foreign investments (83%) is directed to the enterprises of processing industries, geological exploration, financial intermediation and insurance, information and communication, as well as wholesale and retail trade. At the same time, the volume of investments directed to the sphere of financial intermediation and insurance increased by 29.6 %.

In comparison with January-June 2019, the volume of direct foreign investments from non-CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries reduced 2.7 times, mainly due to their decrease from Canada (11.5 times), Great Britain (7.1 times), China (3.5 times), Germany (6.4 times), Switzerland (2.1 times) and Netherlands (3.8 times). At the same time, investments from the United States increased 2.2 times, Korea - 2.0 times and Turkey - 17.7%.

As compared to January-June 2019, the volume of direct foreign investments from CIS countries increased by 0.7% due to the 1.8-fold increase in investments from Kazakhstan. At the same time, investments from Russia decreased by 1.7 times.

The outflow of direct foreign investments in January-June 2020 increased by 2.2 times compared to January-June 2019 and made $603.9 million. The outflow exceeded the inflow level by $439.5 million.

In the structure of foreign direct investments as compared to the corresponding period of 2019, there was an increase in the outflow of all components, except for equity capital.

The increase of investment outflow in January-June 2020 was observed from enterprises of all types of activity, except for agriculture, provision (supply) with electricity, gas and ferry, financial intermediation and insurance, as well as other service activities.

As compared to the first half of 2019, the outflow of direct foreign investments to non-CIS countries increased by 2.4 times.

The outflow of direct foreign investments into the CIS countries increased by 16.6% due to the increase in the outflow of investments into Russia (by 3.0 times).

Meanwhile, the outflow of investments from Kazakhstan decreased 2.1 times.
