Bishkek, Dec.26, 2024. /Kabar/. An informal meeting of leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Leningrad Oblast of the Russian Federation.
Along with President Sadyr Zhaparov, the traditional summit was attended by Presidents of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, f Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Russia Vladimir Putin, Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon, Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow and Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
In his speech, Vladimir Putin noted that in 2024 the main efforts of Russia as the CIS presiding country were aimed at developing integration in the Eurasian space, strengthening the international prestige of the Commonwealth and ensuring effective activity of its executive bodies. Priority was given to deepening economic cooperation, ensuring freedom of movement of goods and services, eliminating trade barriers and simplifying customs procedures.
He also expressed confidence that the CIS countries will continue to work together to solve the problems of social and economic development, strengthening stability and security.
Further, the CIS leaders headed to the territory of the Igora Drive autodrome, where the Auto Club and the Auto Museum are located. From there they watched winter sports. The cultural program ended with the Ice Show.
The leaders had an informal talk and exchanged views on topical international and regional issues.
On Jan. 1, 2025, Tajikistan will take over the chairmanship of the Commonwealth.
