Institute of Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan becomes full member of Asia-Pacific Forum

Bishkek, Sept. 20, 2018 / Kabar /. The Institute of the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan was accepted as a full member of the Asia-Pacific Forum (APF) in Hong Kong, where the 23rd Annual General Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions and the International Conference on Equality are held.

At the meeting, Kyrgyzstan is represented by Deputy Ombudsman Alimbaev. He also made a presentation about the Kyrgyz Ombudsman Institute and the legal status of the department, and also the Institute's practice in the work to minimize all forms of discrimination.

Negotiations on joining the Institute of the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan to APF have been conducted since 2017. In February 2018, Kubat Otorbaev (ex-ombudsman) filed an application. As a result, Kyrgyzstan was accepted as a full-fledged associate member of APF.

The conferences will bring together APF members, equality bodies, representatives of civil society, government representatives, academics and UN agencies from around the Asia-Pacific region to share best practices and major development issues in order to promote equality and eliminate discrimination in the region.
