Bishkek, Mar. 5, 2019. /Kabar/. The State Commission for Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic held a round table on “Current Issues in the Religious sphere: Discussion of Short-Term and Long-Term Plans” on Monday, the press service of the commission reported.
The purpose of the event was to discuss current issues of interaction between the state and religious organizations, interfaith cooperation, holding joint activities to prevent radicalization and the spread of extremist ideology. Representatives of religious organizations and state bodies had been invited to the event.
The press service of the State Commission for Religious Affairs reported that at the round table, approval of the draft provision of the interfaith council, strengthening the role of religious leaders and civil society in the development of interfaith dialogue were reviewed.
“Our goal is to establish and develop dialogue between faiths. We need to maintain democratic principles on religious issues in the country. Religion must remain the free choice of every citizen. We must respect the cultural values and religious preferences of our citizens,” Director of the State Commission for Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Zayirbek Ergeshov told.
The goal of the state policy in the religious sphere is to create an optimal model of state-religious cooperation based on the secular nature of state through effective government regulation of religious and public institutions to ensure the security of citizens and the state, strengthening interfaith harmony and tolerance, and countering religious radicalism and extremism based on the principles of human rights and religious freedom.
