Interior ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan discuss development of bilateral cooperation

Bishkek, Aug. 10, 2021. / Kabar /. A meeting of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan Ulan Niyazbekov and Ovezdurda Khodzhaniyazov took place in Avaza (Turkmenistan).

According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during the meeting, Niyazbekov noted that the priority task for the ministry is to establish close and warm relations with its colleagues from neighboring states.

“For our country, Turkmenistan is not just a neighboring state, our peoples are linked by close historical and cultural traditions. In the modern world, the processes of globalization simultaneously affect the transformation of crime. The underworld is increasingly using the possibilities of technological progress. The fight against organized crime, extremism and drug trafficking requires joint concerted action by law enforcement agencies in many countries, especially in bordering and neighboring states. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic attaches particular importance to cooperation with neighboring countries in countering transnational organized crime and drug trafficking,” Niyazbekov stressed.

During the meeting of the interior ministers of the two countries, the sides discussed issues of strengthening cooperation in the field of combating crime, extremism, drug trafficking, as well as topical issues of mutual interest. The sides confirmed their interest in strengthening cooperation in the field of combating crime.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan expressed confidence that the visit to Turkmenistan will be fruitful and further strengthen the existing bilateral cooperation of our ministries and the meeting creates a basis for further strengthening existing ties and closer cooperation in the law enforcement sphere.

During an official visit to Turkmenistan, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov took part in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, where issues of regional interaction in trade, economic, energy, transport and communication and other spheres were discussed. The delegation of Kyrgyzstan also included Minister of Internal Affairs Ulan Niyazbekov.
