Bishkek, Oct. 5, 2020. /Kabar/. Participants of the protest action against the results of the parliamentary elections had to be dispersed with the help of special equipment, the press service of the Kyrgyz Interior Ministry reported.
"The Interior Ministry called on the protesters on Ala-Too Square to disperse peacefully. However, the protest action participants and its organizers tried to disrupt public order and block the traffic on Chui Avenue. Then they aggressively began moving along Chui Avenue and tried to break the iron gate surrounding the Parliament building. They threw stones and tried to pass through the gate," the report said.
In order to ensure the safety of citizens and maintain calm in Bishkek and disperse protesters, the police had to use special gas-noise and water cannons.
Earlier, the Interior Ministry of the country released a warning that in case of threat to the health of citizens or other destructive manifestations, the responsibility falls on organizers of the protest action, in particular leaders of several political parties and their active members, but despite this, the protesters disrupted public order.
Currently, the police are on high alert to restore public order in Bishkek city.
Kabar Agency has learned from the Health Ministry that 16 victims of the rally were hospitalized in Bishkek.
"The nature of the injuries is being specified," the press service of the ministry said.
The protest action against the results of the parliamentary elections has begun Monday on the central square of Bishkek at about 12 a.m. local time. The participants of the action - leaders of the losing parties demanded to annul the voting results of the parliamentary elections.
The protest action resulted in clashes between security officers and protesters.
The police used tear gas, flash grenades, rubber bullets and a water cannon to disperse the protesters.
