Bishkek, May 6, 2024. /Kabar/. On May 4, the SCO international marathon Run the Silk Road 2024 was held in Cholpon-Ata city of Kyrgyzstan.
According to the organizers, the opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Edil Baisalov, Deputy Secretary General of the SCO Khan Sohail, employees of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports, representatives of local authorities and specially invited guests. The marathon was attended by leading athletes from member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and members of the Kyrgyzstan national athletics team.
About 3 thousand runners from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Belarus, the USA, Canada, the Czech Republic, China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia and many other countries took part in it.
Participants ran the following distances:
marathon 42.19 km;
half marathon 21.97 km;
10 km;
3 km;
Nordic walking 10 km.
The prize fund for the absolute winners of the 42.2 km and 21.1 km distances amounted to 1 million 534 thousand soms.
It should be noted that the marathon distance is certified by the International Association of Marathons and Racing (AIMS) in accordance with the rules of World Athletics.
The marathon is included in the World Athletics competition calendar.
