Bishkek, April 13, 2023. / Kabar /. This year, the International Issyk-Kul Marathon Run the Silk Road under the auspices of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization will be held on May 13, representatives of the Directorate of the marathon told at a press conference Kabar Agency.
About 3,000 runners of various ages and qualifications are expected to participate.
“As of today, 800 people from 10 countries have already registered. Two participants from Kenya expressed their desire to participate in the marathon. They were sent an invitation. This year, for the first time, we will have a technical delegate from the Association of International Marathons and Runs, who will check the level of organization of the event and the track,” Aigerim Valisheva, Executive Director of the International Marathon Directorate said.
The race will be organized in four distances:
marathon (42 km, 195 m);
half marathon (21 km, 97 m);
10 km race;
3 km race;
Additionally, a procession will be organized at a distance of 3 and 10 kilometers for lovers of Nordic walking. The start and finish of the competition will take place on the territory of the hippodrome in the village of Baktuu-Dolonotuu.
Participants of the marathon will be awarded with medals and gifts. In addition to the absolute superiority in the declared distances among men and women, the age categories will also be taken into account when awarding: 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 years old, over 65 years old, as well as the category of people with disabilities.
The Executive Director of the Directorate of the International Marathon specified that the participants of the marathon (42 km) and half marathon (21 km) who took the first six places will be awarded cash prizes.
“The SCO Marathon is a state-level event. 10 million soms are allocated for the event. These funds are provided for the preparation of medals and diplomas for participants and other organizational expenses. The prize fund for a distance of 42 kilometers is 1 million 160 thousand soms, and for 21 kilometers - 374 thousand soms,” said Tilekmat Abdyrakhmanov, head of the elite sports department of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports.
It is noted that the participants with the highest results will be able to win a ticket to prestigious international competitions. The race is licensed for the Olympic and Asian Games, the World Marathon Championship and has the label of the World Athletics Association (WorldAthletic). The course of the marathon is certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Endurances).
