International Mother Language Day celebrated in Osh

Osh, Feb. 22, 2019. /Kabar/. A national cultural festival was held with the participation of Osh State University students, representatives of 13 ethnic groups of Osh branch of the Assembly of Peoples of Kyrgyzstan at Osh State University on Thursday, in the framework of the International Mother Language Day.

The event was attended by Osh Vice Mayor Nurbek Kadyrov, Rector of Osh State University Kanybek Isakov, Chairman of Osh Branch of the Assembly of Peoples of Kyrgyzstan Baltagul Nurumbetov, specialists from the Education Department of the city, faculty members of the university, international students.

During the event, the participants demonstrated the full depth of folk art with a dance program and intellectual, solo performances of foreign students studying at the largest university of the republic, as well as representatives of 13 ethnic groups and national cultural centers of Osh branch of the Assembly of Peoples of Kyrgyzstan.

Following the event, Kadyrov presented the winners of intellectual competitions with prizes on behalf of Osh Mayor’s Office – plasma televisions. In his speech, the vice mayor of Osh noted the importance of the language in each ethnic group as the most powerful tool for the preservation and development of the material and spiritual heritage.

The International Mother Language Day, proclaimed by the UNESCO General Conference on November 17, 1999, has been celebrated annually since 2000 in order to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism.
