Introduction of renewable energy sources is priority: Kyrgyz Energy Ministry

The introduction of renewable energy sources in the energy sector of the country is a priority and an important condition for economic development, Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Doskul Bekmurzayev at the thematic session "Promotion of Transition to Clean and Sustainable Energy in Central Asia," organized by the International Energy Charter Secretariat and UNDP.

Bekmurzayev noted that energy development will lead to economic growth, the press service of the Energy Ministry reported.

“Reliable, safe and uninterrupted power supply to consumers is the basis of economic development. Therefore, it is necessary to attract investments to ensure the growth of this system. It is time to invest in the development of renewable energy sources. Kyrgyzstan is now actively working in this direction and trying to attract investors," the energy minister said.

He added that there is a process of improving the legal framework to improve the investment climate in the country.

"We are ready to strengthen cooperation with the world community in the development of renewable energy sources and efficient use of electricity," Bekmurzayev said.

The minister also reminded that in this October, Kyrgyzstan approved a medium-term tariff policy for electricity. It is designed to improve the efficiency of construction of power plants, to implement investment projects, including the profitability of renewable energy sources.
